Αυτή η πανέξυπνη και φιλικότατη σκυλίτσα ήταν η μασκότ του καταφυγίου. Όλοι την αγαπούσαν. Την Τρίτη έλειπε από το καταφύγιο και αρχίσαμε να ανησυχούμε, αν και τα σκυλιά του προαυλίου συνηθίσουν να κάνουν βόλτες. Όταν δεν φάνηκε ούτε την Πέμπτη, ψάξαμε όλον τον χώρο γύρω από το καταφύγιο. Και τελικά την βρήκαμε στο σκουπιδότοπο – αντικρίσαμε μια φρικτή εικόνα:
Η Αγάπη είχε πνιγεί μέσα σε ένα λάκκο με βρομόνερα. Το άψυχο κορμί της κολυμπούσε με την ράχη προς τα πάνω σε αυτήν την καταραμένη τρύπα. Επανειλημμένα είχαμε ειδοποιήσει τον Δήμο να κλείσει αυτό το επικίνδυνο σημείο, Γιατί είχαν χαθεί και άλλα σκυλιά εκεί αλλά δυστυχώς σκεπάστηκε μόνο πρόχειρα και πρόσφατα κάποιος αφαίρεσε το πλέγμα.
Το μόνο, που μπορούσαμε να κάνουμε ήταν να βγάλουμε το πτώμα της. Ξαπλωμένη δίπλα στον λάκκο. Όταν τη βγάλαμε φαινόταν σαν να κοιμάται και σαν να μπορούσε να ξυπνήσει ανά πάσα στιγμή…. Μέσα σε λίγα δευτερόλεπτα θυμηθήκαμε την ιστορία της:
Μέλος του σωματείου την βρήκε στο Καρλόβασι βαριά τραυματισμένη. Είχε πέσει από μεγάλο ύψος και έσπασε την λεκάνη της. Η κοπέλα την πήγε στον κτηνίατρο για πρώτες βοήθειες, αλλά για την θεραπεία της έπρεπε να μεταφερθεί στην Αθήνα. Ήταν δύσκολες μέρες για την Αγάπη, γεμάτο πόνους και ακινησία για σχεδόν ένα μήνα.
Τι όμορφες στιγμές ήταν αυτές, όταν μπορούσε να τρέξει πάλι. Τι χαρά και ευτυχία!!! Η Αγάπη, κοινωνικότατη όπως ήταν, έκανε φιλίες με όλα τα σκυλιά και φυσικά με όλους τους ανθρώπους, που ήρθαν στο καταφύγιο. Θυμόμαστε τα ζωηρά και χαρούμενα παιχνίδια της με τα άλλα σκυλάκια, πόσο επίμονα κυνηγούσε ζωύφια και πόσο έψαχνε και απολάμβανε τα χάδια.
Θυμόμαστε τις βόλτες της με τον Έλβις, τον αρχηγό του καταφυγίου. Ήταν ο καλύτερος φίλος της. Τώρα μένει απαρηγόρητος, δεν τρώει, κρύβεται στο σπιτάκι του και το βλέμμα του ραγίζει καρδιές. Η σκυλίτσα με τον ήρεμο χαρακτήρα και το μελαγχολικό βλέμμα.
Συνήθως ήταν η πρώτη, που μας χαιρετούσε, πάντα με μεγάλη χαρά. Αγάπη μας, πόσο θα μας λείψεις…. LOVE
Love is unfortunately no longer with us.
This intelligent and very friendly dog was the mascot of the shelter.
Everyone Loved Her.
We noticed Love’s absence from the shelter on Tuesday and we became concerned, even though it was usual for the dogs at the yard to often roam the area. When she failed to turn up on Thursday we began searching the entire area surrounding the shelter.
We finally found her within the garbage dump area… And we were faced with a horrific sight.
Love’s lifeless body was found floating in a dirty water waste pit… She had drowned in this hell hole!
We have countesly and repeatedly both cautioned and warned beforehand the Municipality to close off this very dangerous area zone due to the fact that other dogs in the past have found the same fate in this specific water waste pit. Unfortunately the only thing that was accomplished by the Municipality was a simple net to be the pit’s temporary cover and this was recenlty removed for some unknown reason….
We then proceeded to removed Love’s body from the pit.
Looking at her as she layed there lifeless, it just seemed that she was just taking a nap, ready at any moment to wake up..
Within moments we recalled Love’s story. She was found seriously injured in Karlovasi by a member of our association. She had broken her pelvis after falling from a certain hight. She was taken by our member to a vet to be stabilized, however she had to then be transported to Athens for further due treatment.
She went through some very difficult days of pain and a month of complete immobility. But she bravely pulled through. She was able to run happy and free spirited and be her old joyful self once again.
Such beautiful recollection memories..
Love was a social dog. She easily made doggy friends. She enjoyed happy, lively games and run arounds with her doggy friends and loved the attention and patting and hugging from all human friends visiting the shelter.
We remember her adorable persistance hunting down insects!.. Love versus insects was almost always a score of 1 to O!!
We remember her walks with Elvis, the shelter’s” big boss “. He was her Best friend.
Now Elvis is incosolable. He’s currently not eating and spends his time hiding in his little house, his eyes sad and gazing nowhere…breaking everyone’s heart….
LOVE will always be remebered for her calm and beautiful nature.
